Abstract
Quality childcare is an important topic for parents, early childhood educators and advocates. To obtain a family childcare license in California the requirements are to attend a licensing orientation, submit an application, fingerprinting/criminal clearance, complete 15-hours of health and safety training (preventative health, CPR & pediatric first aid) and a home inspection. The purpose of the study is to examine California Community Care Licensing Division licensing requirements for family childcare homes and their capacity to promoting quality childcare. The study surveyed Contra Costa County childcare professionals, used a pre-existing data source to gather information on Contra Costa County's childcare provider and secondary data from a parent's focus group.
