Abstract
A communication need exists for physicians to be able to exchange “actionable” patient information instantaneously and concisely with their peers to improve the coordination of care with respect to increasing patient safety and reducing delays in patient care. Secure text messaging provides a potential value stream in meeting this communication need within both hospitals' facilities and physician medical offices.
The results and recommendation of this case study will be shared with the region's Chief Medical Information Officer a large Northern California healthcare system, with its headquarters based in Sacramento, California. The case study will be presented as a decision and support document on whether to expand the existing secure text messaging system to the larger community of physicians within the region, who presently are ineligible to receive the service.
