Abstract
Civic engagement is something that citizens either fully participate in or selectively participate in when issues are critical to them. The population in this country, just like that of Alameda County, is so diverse that the government cannot reach out to all the ethnic groups or inform them of the processes of civic participation, such as voting rights. This paper proposes to study civic participation, particularly voting, among Filipino Americans, who comprise a large segment of the Asian-American population in Alameda County. Filipino Americans of voting age were selected to participate in a structured survey to determine the level of voting participation, whether they have been voting in past elections. This study will explore the need to institute a Tagalog language based informational outreach program to increase awareness and voting participation among Filipino Americans.
