Abstract

With California’s growing social and economic development, there is a need to address the educational methods and approaches used that will prepare future leaders. The current high school structure may not be adequately preparing young people for entering into higher learning and/or the workforce. There are many reasons why students drop out of high school. One reason is that many are taught there is one path to higher learning. To meet the needs of California’s growing economy; different methods of learning should be available. This study examines the impact of career pathways and explores whether or not the implementation of career pathways in the Twin Rivers Unified School District (TRUSD) will improve their graduation rates, college readiness, and career readiness. A qualitative research design using survey and interview data were primarily used to help answer questions about this approach. Perceptions from key personnel in the TRUSD and a state representative in education were captured in this process. Findings from this study suggest that TRUSD will benefit from an implemented career pathway.
