Abstract

This research paper will examine how leadership styles affected the climate of the Department of Community and Culture (DCC) (formerly the Department of Community and Economic Development) (DCED) during the reign of three different leaders from January 2004 to September 2006.

The research is based on 15 valid surveys and five open-ended key informant interviews from those employed with DCC from January 2004 to September 2006. Survey questions were developed from various sources based on effective leadership styles.

Secondary data from the Utah Department of Human Resource Management were be utilized to examine the trends in employee turnover and ascertain if there might be a relationship between leadership style affecting the climate of DCC from January 2004 to September 2006.

This research paper demonstrates if the different leadership styles had an influence on the climate of DCC and to what degree (i.e., positive or negative).
