Abstract
The purpose of this research paper is to evaluate the programs in reducing veteran homelessness in the County of Sacramento. This research paper also discusses the setbacks the County of Sacramento is experiencing in relation to housing homeless veterans. This research paper provides an examination of the housing strategies utilized by the city of New Orleans, and Philadelphia, as well as the regions of Southern Nevada and Gulf Coast in ending veteran homelessness. This research will also cover recommendations on how Sacramento County can emulate some of these housing strategies to effectively reduce veteran homelessness. The review of relevant literature in this paper includes a history of veteran homelessness in the United States, how the homeless veteran population increased over a period of time along with an assessment and the programs used for housing homeless veterans. Data for this research was collected from key personnel from different veteran agencies to include the Veteran's Administration – Sacramento, and the County of Sacramento. It is hoped that the results of this study may be use by the County of Sacramento to adopt practices/programs for reducing veteran homelessness.
