Zahra Billoo of CAIR Speaking on Islamophobia and Civil Rights Remedies

    Zahra Billoo

Zahra Billoo was a guest speaker at an Introduction to Islamic Law class at GGU, November 3, 2016.

Zahra Billoo is a civil rights attorney and community organizer. She serves as the Executive Director of the San Francisco Bay Area office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-SFBA). Zahra is a 2013 recipient of the South Asian Bar Association of Northern California's Trailblazer Award and a 2014 recipient of the National Lawyers Guild SF Bay Area Chapter's Unsung Hero Award.

At her direction, CAIR-SFBA filed and recently won a ruling by a federal judge that Abercrombie & Fitch violated federal anti-discrimination employment guidelines when it fired a Muslim employee in for not removing her religious headscarf, or hijab, for work. Zahra's work with CAIR-SFBA has been highlighted in local and national media outlets including KTVU, NBC, CNN, MSNBC, the Christian Science Monitor, and NPR.
