Abstract
Freedom of speech is a cornerstone of U.S. democracy and culture, and the right to read falls within this First Amendment protection. During an interview at his San Francisco office Professor Eric Christiansen, of Golden Gate University School of Law, provides an historic context for this freedom, and offers a contemporary point of view on how it is exercised by individuals, schools, and communities today.
